Växa Sverige is looking for an experienced Geneticist

Växa Sverige has national responsibility for the official commitments within breeding, such as breeding values, breeding goals and herdbooking for our largest dairy and beef breeds. We are also managing the breeding evaluation for Swedish sheep. Växa has a comprehensive database with registrations and information about Swedish cattle. This database includes data about production, veterinary treatments and animal health, heritage and genome, among other things. By processing and presenting this information we provide tools that help to maintain Swedish animal welfare among the best in the world, without compromising growth in production.

In addition to our national commitment, we are also a part of Nordic and international breeding networks, such as Nordic breeding evaluation (NAV), Interbull and Interbeef. Växa Sverige is continuously involved in several development projects with the aim of enhancing the genetic performance of our cattle and thus ensuring a sustainable and competitive breeding that benefits the agricultural sector in Sweden as well as abroad.

The current hiring will join the Breeding Knowledge team. Together with your colleagues and representatives from other organisations, you will work in development projects aiming to improve cattle breeding and ensure that new and relevant research is implemented at farm level.

The position includes:

• Development work aiming to strengthen Swedish and Nordic breeding efforts
• Development of new breeding systems, methods and routines for breeding evaluation and implementation of the results in practice on farm level
• Following the latest research within genetics in order to apply new and relevant results and knowledge to Växas’ work within breeding
• Representing Växa Sverige and inform farmers and other organisations about our breeding work
• Cooperating with Nordic and international colleagues in order to achieve common, quality assured and sustainable work within breeding.

We are now facing an exciting period with constant development of breeding strategies and increasing customer demands regarding the breeding evaluation.

As our new colleague in the Breeding Knowledge team at Växa Sverige you will be part of a multidisciplinary team working actively with developing agricultural companies with dairy and beef production.

We think that the position suits you if you:

• Have an academic degree in a relevant area, preferably agronomy or biology with focus on genetics
• Are good at collaboration and relationship building
• Have previous experience of breeding evaluation
• Have a good command of English
• At least five years work experience within the area of genetics

It is also a merit if you have: 

• A higher academic degree within genetics
• Speak Swedish on an acceptable level

We value personal skills highly, such as motivation, strong engagement and social skills. The work is largely independent although you will actively plan and pursue your tasks in consultation with your manager and your colleagues.

Employment and location: Full time until further notice. The position is preferably situated in Uppsala but other locations are open to discussion.

Salary according to agreement.
